Llama Llama Read for the RecordŽ

On October 6, 2011, United Way of Southwest Minnesota joined with Jumpstart, Penguin Books and the Pearson Foundation to carry out the 2011 Jumpstart's Read for the RecordŽ campaign, a nationwide effort that draws attention to the importance of early literacy while setting a new world record for the largest shared reading experience on a single day.

This year's book was Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney.  Many local children have received this book at home through the Imagination Library program.  Through United Way of Southwest Minnesota's engagement in this campaign over 90 volunteer readers read to over 2200 children in this area.  The llama (see photo album) covered over 300 miles and visited 16 schools to help increase the excitement level of this campaign.  Following are some photos from the campaign.
