|
United Way of Southwest Minnesota announces thirty-four (34) grants totaling $322,518 for programs in this area that will serve local people during 2010-11. A number of the programs serve multi-county areas. The grants represent United Way's commitment to support community priorities of education, income and health. All grant applications were reviewed by teams of local volunteers who made recommendations for funding to the United Way of Southwest Minnesota Board of Directors.
The following community impact grants have been awarded:
Education (Helping children and youth achieve their potential)
- Arc of Minnesota Southwest (Family Connections Program): $4,000
- Camp Love's Embrace (bereavement support): $1,000
- Girl Scouts, MN & WI River Valleys: $2,500
- Boy Scouts, Sioux Council: $2,500
- The Connection (Canby Youth Center): $6,500
- Big Buddies of Western Community Action: $28,000
- Youth as Resources: $2,000
- Peer Helpers/Ambassadors: $1,800
- Junior Achievement of SW/WC Minnesota (Lyon & Murray Counties): $6,000
- Sheriff's Youth Programs of MN (Marshall Group Home): $720
- Mustang Mail (SMSU): $500
- Head Start of Western Community Action (Incredible Years Parenting Program): $9,000
- R.O.C.K. (Raising Our Children's Kids) of Western Community Action: $500
- Success By 6 (Imagination Library, School Readiness Kits, Mobile Learning, Early Childhood Initiative): $63,357

- Senior Nutrition Program (Lutheran Social Services): $7,000
- Marshall Area YMCA: $20,000
- Marshall United Soccer Association: $2,000
- New Horizons Crisis Center: $29,000
- Prairie Home Hospice: $8,000
- Gillette Outreach Clinics (Southwest Assistive Technology Network): $10,400
- Women's Rural Advocacy Program (WRAP): $20,000
In addition to the above Community Impact Grants, United Way of Southwest Minnesota awards venture grants two times a year and annually awards student emergency fund grants to twenty-one (21) area schools. All funds that are granted were raised as donations to the annual United Way of Southwest Minnesota campaign.
United Way of Southwest Minnesota is an independent, local organization working to create lasting changes in people's lives and the communities in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine and western Redwood Counties of Minnesota.
