Paluch the 8,000th Graduate of United Way of Southwest Minnesota’s Imagination Library Program

Ajax PaluchIn January, 2018 Ajax Paluch of Russell started his journey with the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL) book program when his parents submitted his enrollment form for the program.  Now, he is the 8,000th graduate since United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) began sponsorship of this program.

This is a major milestone for Ajax!  It means that he’s turning 5 and will receive the book “Look Out Kindergarten, Here I Come!” by Nancy Carlson as his graduation gift. Each child who graduates from the program receives this book, even if they won’t start kindergarten right away!

It’s also a huge milestone for UWSWMN.  Since becoming the proud sponsor of this program in 2005, over 483,000 books have been delivered to local children.   Over 2,200 children currently receive a specially selected, age and developmentally appropriate book delivered to their home each month.  Research shows that children gain valuable school readiness skills each and every time they are read a book.  The impact of this simple routine can create an amazing difference in the life of a child.

The DPIL book program is available free to children ages birth to five years living with their parent or guardian in the UWSWMN service area.  UWSWMN serves people living in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine and portions of Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles and Redwood counties in Minnesota. If you would like to enroll your child or learn more about this program, please visit UnitedWaySWMN.org/IL.

Congratulation to Ajax Paluch on being United Way of Southwest Minnesota’s 8,000th graduate from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
