Tracy Elementary Students Win Penny Challenge

Tracy Area Elementary was one of many schools that participated in the ABC…1-2-3…Raise Pennies With Me effort sponsored by the United Way of Southwest Minnesota.  The students brought in pennies from October 2-26.

The prize for the school that raised the most funds included a deluxe book package for their school and a special visit and official debut of the new United Way Llama.  Tracy Area Elementary students won the challenge by raising $1,010.14.  Other participating schools were entered into a drawing to win a book package for their respective school.  Parkside Elementary in Marshall and Westbrook-Walnut Grove were drawn to receive the book packages.

On Monday, November 20th students at Tracy Elementary were greeted in the gymnasium by the United Way Llama and Sarah Kicmal, Education & Volunteer Services Coordinator for the United Way of Southwest Minnesota.  Students were read the book, Llama Llama and the Bully Goat, and had the opportunity to meet the llama.

Proceeds from the ABC…1-2-3…Raise Pennies With Me challenge will benefit United Way of Southwest Minnesota’s annual fundraising campaign and will help raise reader’s one penny at a time! Funds will be directed to literacy building efforts in Southwest Minnesota such as the support of the Imagination Library Program.   For more information on the work of your local United Way, please visit www.unitedwayswmn.org.
