United Way of Southwest Minnesota Awarded Great River Energy Grant

Great River Energy recently donated $1250 to United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN). The donation will go toward the Imagination Library Program. This special program provides children (ages birth – 5 years of age) who live in the UWSWMN service area an age and developmentally appropriate book in the mail each month. Children gain valuable school readiness skills each time an adult in their life takes time to read books to them. Since UWSWMN began sponsoring the program in 2005, 5,901 local children have graduated from the program, and 368,943 books have been distributed. At this time, 2,667 local children receive a book delivered to their home on a monthly basis (stats as of September 2018).

”We want every child in our service area to be ready and prepared to start school successfully. In order to do this and achieve their goals, they must have access to high quality books to facilitate additional learning,” said Marcy Heemeyer, President & CEO, United Way of Southwest Minnesota.
