Marshall Food4Kids receives Community Impact Grant

Marshall Food4Kids has received a community impact grant from the United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) of $7,500 to support their weekend backpack program.  These funds will be used to purchase nutritious snacks in the weekend backpacks that they distribute to preschool through eighth-grade students.  This program aims to reduce food insecurity for children in the Marshall area.  This work aligns with UWSWMN's hunger priority area.

UWSWMN makes a difference in the lives of local people by investing in programs focused on the health, education, financial stability, hunger, and safety & well-being of people living in our service area.  Our service area includes the communities we serve in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine, and portions of Minnesota's Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles, and Redwood counties.

Community impact grants are the main way UWSWMN invests donations into our communities.  The community impact grant process involves local volunteers who help review funding requests and collaborate to make funding recommendations to our board of directors.  For the 2023-24 funding cycle, a total of $212,000 was awarded to programs working to improve the lives of local people.
