Marshall Food4Kids Receives Community Impact Grant
Marshall Food4Kids has been awarded a Community Impact Grant of $7,746 from the United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) to help fund their weekend backpack program. This funding will be used to buy nutritious snacks for the weekend backpacks distributed to preschool through eighth-grade students. The goal of the program is to reduce food insecurity for children in the Marshall area, aligning with UWSWMN's focus on addressing hunger.
UWSWMN makes a difference in the lives of local people by investing in programs focused on the health, education, financial stability, hunger, and safety & well-being of people living in our service area. Our service area includes the communities we serve in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine, and portions of Minnesota's Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles, and Redwood counties.
The primary method through which UWSWMN invests donations into our communities is by awarding Community Impact Grants. Local volunteers play a crucial role in this process by reviewing funding requests and working together to make funding recommendations to our board of directors. During the funding cycle of 2024-25, programs dedicated to enhancing the lives of local people were awarded a total of $181,000.
