The Prairie Five Meals program of Prairie Five Community Action Council, Inc. has been awarded a community impact grant from the United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) of $8,000. These funds will help offset the cost of providing meals to the older adult population thereby promoting healthy and independent living through improved nutrition and reduced social isolation. This work aligns with UWSWMN’s hunger priority area.
UWSWMN makes a difference in the lives of local people by investing in programs focused on the health, education, financial stability, hunger, and safety & well-being of people living in our service area. Our service area includes the communities we serve in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine, and portions of Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles, and Redwood counties in Minnesota.
Community impact grants are the primary way UWSWMN invests donations into our communities. The community impact grant process involves local volunteers who help review funding requests and work together to make funding recommendations to our board of directors. For the 2022-23 funding cycle, a total of $212,822 has been awarded to programs working to improve the lives of local people.
