Tall Grass Liquor of Marshall MN used change jars to collect donations from their employees and customers for a few months to raise $533.25 to support the Imagination Library book program which is sponsored locally by United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN).
Because of this sponsorship, the Imagination Library book program is available free of charge to children (age birth – 5 years of age) who live in our service area. Every child who is enrolled receives an age and developmentally appropriate book in the mail each month. Children gain valuable school readiness skills each time an adult in their life takes time to read books to them.
Since we began sponsoring the program in 2005, 7,886 local children have graduated from the program, and 476,429 books have been delivered to homes throughout our service area. In July of this year, 2,282 local children will receive a book mailed to their home because of UWSWMN’s sponsorship of this program.
UWSWMN sponsors this program to children living in the following school districts: Balaton, Canby, Clarkfield, Dawson/Boyd, Echo, Fulda, Hendricks, Ivanhoe, Lake Benton, Lakeview, Lynd, Marshall, Milroy, Minneota, Murray County Central, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, Tracy, Walnut Grove-Westbrook, and Yellow Medicine East. Generally, the cost is $30 per child per year.
